Abstract | The Book of Mormon was published on March 26, 1830. With the exception of converts, initial reaction was hostile. Most critics dismissed the book with contempt. In 2016, however, reaction to the Book of Mormon among non-Mormon readers is much more positive, with some now classifying the book as a "classic." Is it really fair to call the Book of Mormon a classic? There are some definite signs that the Book of Mormon truly can be called a classic, and that it ranks among one of the great achievements of American and world literature. |
