Abstract | Nephi stated that at the time he lived in Jerusalem, there were “many prophets, prophesying unto the people that they must repent, or the great city Jerusalem must be destroyed” (1 Nephi 1:4). At least nine prophets from the Bible were active during Lehi’s time. This large number of prophets is not surprising, considering the turmoil in the land during Lehi’s time. Conflicts between true prophets and false prophets, found in Jeremiah, help shed light on the conflicts between Nephi and his brothers, as Laman and Lemuel’s arguments are similar to what the false prophets were preaching, and Lehi’s words were similar to the teachings of the true prophets. |
