Both Mormon and the Lord Himself commented on the great worth of the small plates of Nephi. One possible reason for this is that Nephi’s smaller record clearly outlines the covenant relationship and promised blessings that the Lord prepared for His people. In 2 Nephi 5, in particular, Nephi described nine different ways that the Lord had prospered them. Mormon, it seems, then drew upon and highlighted these same blessings throughout his abridgment. When these references are looked at collectively, it becomes clear that “prosperity” in the Book of Mormon is a unified concept and that these same promised blessings are available to us today.
