Abstract | Brigham Young’s ministry is intimately connected with the Book of Mormon. After the move west, Brigham named the new territory “Deseret,” a Book of Mormon name for the honeybee, and because of the belief that the Native Americans they encountered in this territory were “Lamanites,” Brigham attempted to establish more benevolent policies toward the Native Americans. He had temples built in St. George and Manti, because he believed that an ancient Nephite had dedicated those sites. It was during Brigham Young’s time as president of the Church that the first seven foreign language editions of the Book of Mormon were published. |
