Come to Jehovah, the Living Waters (55:1–5)

The Lord

55 1Everyone who is thirsty,
come to the waters,

and whoever has no silver, come buy and eat;
and come buy wine and milk without silver and without price.

2Why do you spend your silver for that which is not bread
and your labor for that which does not satisfy?

Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

3Stretch your ear and come to Me.
Hear, that your soul may live,

and I will make an everlasting covenant with you—
the sure loving-kindnesses of David.

4Surely I made him a witness to the peoples,
a leader and commander of the peoples.

5Surely you will call a nation that you know not,
and a nation that did not know you will run to you,

for the sake of the LORD, your God,
and for the Holy One of Israel, for He has glorified you.

Seek the Lord and Forsake Our Wicked Ways (55:6–13)

Isaiah

6Seek the LORD while He may be found;
call upon Him while He is near.

7Let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts.

Let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him,
and to our God, for He will abundantly forgive.

The Lord

8For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways,

Isaiah

declares the LORD.

The Lord

9For as the heavens
are higher than the earth,

so, My ways are higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts.

10For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there, but water the earth

making it bring forth and sprout,

and giving seed to the sower
and bread to the one who eats,

11so My word will be that goes forth from My mouth;
it will not return to Me empty,

but it will accomplish that which I purpose
and will succeed for which I sent it.

12For with rejoicing you will go out
and be led with peace;

the mountains and hills will break forth before you in singing,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

13Instead of the thorn, the cypress will come up;
instead of the briar, the myrtle will come up

Isaiah

And it will be to the LORD for a name;
for an everlasting sign, it will not be cut off.
