Abstract

Submitted to the 2021 Book of Mormon Central Art Contest.

"This is my Beloved Son, Hear Him." This last year has been one for the books, in more ways than one. Something that our Beloved Prophet, Russell M. Nelson, has asked us to do is to focus more on Hearing our Savior, much like the request our Heavenly Father gave to Joseph Smith as they appeared to him in a grove of trees. This piece depicts what that might have felt like for Joseph, or anyone else who has been privileged to see the Savior. I, like Joseph at the beginning of this glorious restoration, am forever grateful for my savior and His constant love and grace. I am grateful for my knowledge and testimony of His sacrifice. And grateful for the opportunity I had while doing this piece, to study these hands more carefully than I ever have before.

The artist is from Kansas City, Missouri, and has been painting for as long as she can remember. Her grandma is a painter, and she remembers fondly spending Sunday afternoons sitting on the couch with her grandma watching Bob Ross paint. She loves to try new things with her painting, and depicting what is in her mind, especially when she reads the scriptures and accounts of church history.
