Abstract | The early Christian bishop was originally a leader of a local congregation. In the letters of 1 Timothy and Titus, the duties and characteristics required of a bishop are spelled out. Taken together, these epistles prescribe twenty-four qualities of the bishop. These attributes are as appropriate for bishops and leaders of the church today as they were in the first generation of Christians. |
